How to Measure Your Necklace Length

The standard lengths for necklaces are 16", 18" and 20" and while charts and references for where that falls on the average person are helpful, it's nice to know how long a necklace will be on your body. Follow the 4 easy steps below to measure your neck, and shop with confidence!

Step 1:

Gather

  • Scissors

  • String

  • Measuring tape or ruler

Step 2:

Measure the length of whatever necklace you're considering using the string and the ruler. For this example we're referencing an 18" length, which is the most common length when you're shopping for necklaces.

Step 3:

Cut!

Step 4:

Take the string you just cut, wrap it around your neck, and bring the ends together at the front. This tells you how long the necklace you're looking at will be on you!

Now, if you don't like being standard, don't worry, I don't either. That's why I started making extenders! You can make any necklace the length you want with a chain extender attached to the back! Click here to shop
